SaaS Director of Finance

Immediate Opening

Introduction: Serves as full-time, onsite or remote Director of Finance for a single SaaS (software-as-a-service) client and works tightly with Driven Insights remote CFO and accounting team as sole member of the Driven Insights team who is 100% focused on client. Manage day-to-day finance operations as detailed herein for this rapidly-growing, progressive SaaS firm.


Location: Work remotely or at client site in Indianapolis, IN


  • Lead & manage cash flow, budget & scenario planning
  • Identify, measure, analyze and report upon SaaS KPI (key performance indicators)
  • Ensure the accuracy of Sisense financial and Saas metric data (SaaSOptics & QuickBooks)
  • Coach non-finance executives on strategic SaaS KPI usage and management of their respective department’s budget
  • Extensive scenario modeling to drive strategic decisions on topics ranging from pricing, to cash impact from changes to payment terms, product development investment ROI or changes in EBITDA based on different department spend/revenue strategies.
  • Proactively monitor sales tax liability, ensuring compliance as client grows and compliance landscape evolves, coordinating with CPA and Driven Insights team
  • Serve as primary conduit for Driven Insights and client internal finance & administrative inquiries on topics such as:
    1. Customer Contract questions
    2. Product pricing
    3. Expense management
    4. Purchase orders
    5. Insurance
    6. Sales commission
    7. Sisense reports
  • Handle vendor and bank relationship with CFO direction
  • Facilitate purchase requisition and expenses review & approval
  • Execute strategic projects (eg: due diligence, fundraising requests) following CFO guidance
  • Own, evolve internal client finance processes to promote efficiency, ensure data accuracy
  • Manage accounting and finance-related technology from QuickBooks to subscription management tool to credit card processor to business intelligence toolset
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
  • Travel infrequently to Driven Insights (once safe to do so) for professional development activities


  • Strong understanding of SaaS KPIs and ability to lead executive team to using the right KPIs and analysis at the right time to make informed decisions quickly
  • High energy with positive attitude. Willing to work at a high level of intensity and fast pace to support the needs of a rapidly growing SaaS business.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
  • Master’s in Business Administration and/or CPA license preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a Manager/Director of Finance or Controller, with a minimum of 3 years of SaaS finance experience
  • Strong QuickBooks Online experience
  • Exceptionally strong Google Sheet / Microsoft Excel financial modeling skills with track record of building and maintaining sophisticated cash flow and GAAP-compliant budget models
  • Firm grasp on current SaaS-specific sales tax compliance requirements and liability management, including usage of sales tax liability management tool like Avalara
  • Deep experience with subscription billing enterprise software solution such as SaaSOptics, Zuora, business intelligence tool like Sisense, and fluency in SaaS KPIs
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making & project management skills
  • Incredible attention to detail and natural sense of urgency
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Maintain a positive, solutions-focused attitude
  • Ability to use good judgement and keep client information confidential
  • Deliver consistent excellent customer service to internal/external customers, colleagues and management
